White Flour is
a story that needs to be told, especially in the world of today.
Children need to learn how to meet the hate surrounding us without
returning it – and this book shows them a special way to do that. It is a
poignant and beautiful book with a story that will inspire young and
old. My hat is off to David and Jenn for their important, moving work.
— Peter Yarrow, of Peter Paul & Mary
White Flour is David LaMotte’s second
children’s book, with illustrations by Jenn Hales. In Seussian rhyme,
it tells the funny and inspiring story of the day that the Ku Klux Klan
met the Coup Clutz Clowns, who offered a whimsical and wise retort to
their racist rally. The poem that provides the text for the book was
inspired by true events in Knoxville, TN in 2007. White Flour was written for middle school students and older, but may be appropriate for younger kids at their parents’ discretion.
